We’re hosting our own mitten tree, and you can help us decorate it!

Mitten Tree Day is celebrated on December 6th every year.  The holiday was most likely inspired by the endearing children’s book The Mitten Tree by Candace Christiansen. In the story, a woman named Sarah notices some children who do not have mittens and cannot play in the snow with the other children. She decides to anonymously knit mittens for them and hangs them in an evergreen tree for the children to find and use.

Starting Dec. 6th, we will have a tree at the library where you can bring donations of mittens, gloves, scarves, hats, and more.  The tree will be up all month.  We will be donating all items to local preschools and elementary schools for children in need.
