This Memorial Day, the Library is offering a special map to support the community in visiting the gravesites of local men who are among the 58,000 names that appear on the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. These men died within the defined combat zone or while on a combat support mission to/from the zone of Vietnam:
Richard Podell – 1938-1967
John Parcel – 1947-1968
Larry Bonnell – 1943-1967
Randall Nightingale – 1943-1968
Stuart Binkley – 1947-1971
Gerald “Jerry” Shank Jr. – 1936-1964
Visit the Library to pick up a free map with directions to each man’s gravesite in Pulaski County and a short biography. You can also view our Vietnam Veterans War Memorial display at the Library, highlighting these servicemen and rubbings from the Wall.
Did you know one of these men? We are collecting local memories to give breadth to their memory. Funny stories, sad stories, and all shades in between are welcome. These recollections will be included in a permanent resource in the Library’s local history room.
