Kindergartners and 2nd graders got to see what the Pulaski County Public Library is all about during class visits earlier this month.
139 Eastern Pulaski students from the two grades visited the library in early May.
To start off their visit, Miss Jolie read the book “Library Day,” written by Anne Rockwell and illustrated by Lizzy Rockwell, to the groups.
The kids then took a tour of the library building, learning about different areas from the computer labs to activity spaces to the Delores “Dee” Galbreath Local History Room.
They even picked up a few library secrets along the way! For instance, they were especially excited to see how the book drops work.
The young students asked some great questions during the tour. They asked if the library had specific series, topics, or formats of books, from I Survived and Minecraft to graphic novels and Taylor Swift. (Yes – the library has all of these!)
Kids learned about some of the unique items they can check out at the Pulaski County Public Library, like Playaway Launchpad tablets loaded with apps, videos, and games for interactive learning, and musical instruments including ukuleles, banjos, and a violin.
They learned how they can sign up for a library card with their parent or guardian so that they can start checking out books and taking advantage of all the library has to offer.
Finally, kids got a sneak peek of the library’s Summer Reading program “Adventure Begins at Your Library,” which will be all about nature. Registration for the program will begin on May 28th!
